The Honorable Governor ___________
Attn: Proclamation Office

City, State, Zip

Dear Governor ________:

I am writing this letter to you on behalf of the patients in our state who have Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). IPF is a disorder that creates scarring (fibrosis) in the delicate lung tissue of affected patients. This devastating disease progresses quickly, has no cure, and is often misdiagnosed in the early stages. Very often there is no known cause for IPF.

The Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis (CPF) initiated a program to have each of the 50 states declare the month of October IPF Awareness Month. Patients are working with the CPF to increase awareness of IPF. We hope that a greater degree of public awareness will lead to early detection, enhanced support services for patients, and greater interest in IPF research.

We will have patients and CPF representatives on Capitol Hill during the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 1 to meet with legislators about two important bills currently in congress that will help IPF patients. The CPF is also kicking off the week by sponsoring a local 5K B.I.G (Breathing is Glorious!) race and fundraising event in Ann Arbor, MI on Sept. 26. Please help our efforts by signing and issuing a proclamation declaring October IPF Awareness Month in our state.

Thank you in advance for your help and support.

Sincerely,
